Cricket....

Hi !

I wrote this in response to an article which appeared on the Economic Times today titled "Dear Chappell, revise your management lessons" by one Lopmudra Ghatak (Click here to read it). It was a scathing attack on the style, approach & recent developments concerning Greg Chappel-The Indian Cricket coach.

Though I am not a keen follower of the game since the last 5-6 years but as recently I have been following the Greg Vs. Sourav spat closely on the news channels (moreover you can't really take Cricket out of an Indian male), somehow I was unable to hold myself back. In the end I did manage to write this piece to the editor.

I was surprised to read this article on a respected business newspaper as the "Economic Times". I just hope the views of the author do not necessarily mirror the views of the Newspaper.

Mediocracy has no place in today's competitive world, of which cricket too forms a very important part, especially for a country as ours. On one hand the top teams including Australia, England & Sri Lanka have been light years ahead of the Indian cricket team in terms of fitness & performance on the field, on the other hand teams such as Zimbabwe also have been surprising & surpassing the Indian team on performance.

Given these set of conditions, the Indian team & players have no second option but to fall in line with what the coach is trying to achieve. I don't find anything wrong with the approach of Greg Chappel. Why the hell are we so afraid of trying new players, every time its the same old Ganguly, Tendulkar etc. etc.... Though I agree that both Sourav & Greg could have talked & attempted to settle the issues but the matter of fact now is that Ganguly's situation is as bad or worse than when you need to make a visit to loo...you gotta go when you gotta go. Ganguly needs to go !

Just because Ganguly has been fairly successful as a captain in the past doesn't mean he will remain to be so forever. Every tiger ages. The Bengal tiger cannot play "bad" cricket & the team afford to be on a losing streak forever. Or we may as well say Bye Bye to the "World Cup-2007" just now.
